My Observation At A Public Middle School - 1801 Words
I conducted my observation at a public middle school in an urban setting. The class that I observed was a sixth grade self-contained class. The class was small, containing about fifteen students, the teacher and a teacher aid. The teacher taught the students English, which included writing and reading but also helped students with math. In the classroom the desk were put in groups of four so that the students were facing each other. There were bins in the back of the room that help their individual folders and reading books along with the teacher aids desk. The teachersââ¬â¢ desks were set to one side of the classroom and in the front were a chalkboard and an interactive white board. I saw studentsââ¬â¢ work on independent and group work in theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦For example, the teacher encouraged high expectations for her students. She did this by giving the students challenging class work. Although the students had disabilities she believed that they could be chal lenged to further their learning. Instead of handing the students all books and reading to them she had each student read part of the chapter. This helped each student build their vocabulary and helped their reading. She was patient with the students and helped them sound out words if they did not know them. The teacher also set consequences for non-completed work, which I thought was very useful. When a student did not do their homework from the night before because they were ââ¬Å"lazyâ⬠or just forgot they would receive a zero but were able to earn the grade back if they completed it by class time tomorrow. This showed students that they have to be responsible for their own work and have to be more organized now that they are in middle school. I also saw that if a student did not bring their laptops to class as instructed the day before they would have to work with what they had. The laptops were used so students could participate in an online reading program know as Wilson . I thought that the Wilson program was and was not effective. It was because it helped the students increase their reading levels but when they were asked question about what they read they would randomly chose an answer without taking time to think about it. Nursing Practice Act Being a former nursing student in the state of Pennsylvania I have had the Nursing Practice Act of Pennsylvania. Before this assignment I knew little of the Pennsylvania laws and absolutely none of the state of Florida. Every state has their set of laws, which is referred to the Nursing Practice Act. Every nursing student must have a copy. The nursing practice act ensures that anyone practicing does not fall below the minimum competency and does not present danger to the public, and anyone who does will be prohibited from practicing (Nurse Practice Act, 2007, p.7). Depending on the ratio of capitalistic elements to socialist or mercantile elements, there are many freedoms in a mixed economy. People may go into business for themselves, decide what they will produce or sell, and set their own prices. Business owners and merchants pay taxes, but they reap the benefits of those taxes through social programs, roads and other infrastructure elements, and other government services. The mixed economy is helpful in increasing national production in the country. Both public and private sectors work hard to bring about more production. The problems created by free enterprise and too much public control are solved through mixed economy. It provides freedom of enterprise ownership and profit earning as well as social welfare and political freedom. And all the national recourses are utilized under mixed economy. Advantages of mixed economy in that, a verity of goods are available. We can find the role of co-operatives in the field of cultivation diary, poultry. The use of intoxicants and drugs is prohibited and the government never allows black marketing. Income disparities can be checked. The basic rational behind under mixed economy is to raise social welfare of the masses removing the pitfalls attached with the free enterprise. Public services are provided for every one Mixed economies do have benefits. They are much more stable when compared to Free Market systems, and government regulations can prevent inflation and exorbitant investment, thus inhibiting the inevitable cycles of recession and prosperity. The only reason why Mixed economies are affected by the current recession is the fact that the U. S. , a very right-leaning Mixed economy, has succumbed to sub-prime mortgages, resulting in foreclosures, bailouts, and bankruptcy. Another major benefit is a social safety net. For example, Free Health care, education and transportation are all things that people take for granted that are provided to us, free of charge (except in taxes, of course). Finally, Mixed economies also waste less resources in general and are more environmentally conscientious. Private companies dont really care if they are harming the environment, as long as they are making oney. (Of course, if being more environmentally conscious attracts more consumers, thats what they will do). In a Mixed economy, this is where government regulations come into the picture. The government might decide to reduce their environmental footprint, or might be pressured into such policies by lobby groups or environmental activists/organizations. People have more influence on government policies, which results in changes governme nt regulation which affects what products are produced, how they are produced, and how they can be disposed of.

Biography of Physicist Albert Einstein Albert Einstein was a theoretical physicist and one of the geniuses of 20th Century physics. His work has helped along our understanding of the universe. He was born and lived much of his life in Germany, before emigrating to the United States in 1933. Growing a Genius When he was five years old, Einsteins father showed him a pocket compass. Young Einstein realized that something in empty space affected the needle. He said the experience was one of the most revelatory of his life.à About a year later, Alberts education began.à Although he was clever and built models and mechanical devices for fun, he was also considered a slow learner. Its possible he was dyslexic, or he may have simply been shy. He was good at mathematics, especially calculus. In 1894, the Einsteins moved to Italy, but Albert stayed in Munich. The following year, he failed an exam which determined whether he could study for a diploma in electrical engineering in Zurich. In 1896, he renounced his German citizenship, not becoming a citizen of any other country until 1901. Also in 1896 he entered the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich and trained as a teacher in physics and mathematics. He received his degree in 1900. Einstein worked from 1902 to 1909 as a technical expert at the patent office. During that time, he andà Mileva Maric, a mathematician, had a daughter Lieserl, born in Januaryà 1902. (What eventually happened to Lieserl is not know. Its possible she died in infancy or was put up for adoption.) The couple wasnt married until 1903. On May 14, 1904, the couples first son, Hans Albert Einstein was born. During this part of his life, Einstein began writing about theoretical physics. He also earned a doctorate from the University of Zurich in 1905 for a thesis calledà On a new determination of molecular dimensions. Developing a Theory of Relativity The first of Albert Einsteins three 1905 papers looked at a phenomenon discovered by Max Planck. Plancks discovery indicating that electromagnetic energy seemed to be emitted from radiating objects in discrete quantities. This energy was directly proportional to the frequency of the radiation. Einsteins paper used Plancks quantum hypothesis for a description of the electromagnetic radiation of light. Einsteins second 1905 paper laid the groundwork for what would eventually become the special theory of relativity. Using a reinterpretation of the classical principle of relativity, which said that the laws of physics had to have the same form in any frame of reference, Einstein proposed that the speed of light remained constant in all frames of reference, as required by Maxwells theory. Later that year, as an extension of his theory of relativity, Einstein showed how mass and energy were equivalent. à Einstein held several jobs from 1905 to 1911, while still developing his theories. In 1912, he began a new phase of research, with the help of mathematician Marcel Grossmann. He called his new work the general relativity theory, which he was able to publish in 1915. It deals with the specifics of space-time theory as well as something called the cosmological constant. In 1914 Einstein became a German citizen and was appointed Director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Physical Institute and Professor at the University of Berlin. The Einsteins divorced on February 14, 1919. Albert then married his cousin Elsa Loewenthal. He received the Nobel Prize in 1921 for his 1905 work on the photoelectric effect.à Fleeing World War II Einstein renounced his citizenship for political reasons and emigrated to the United States in 1935. He became Professor of Theoretical Physics at Princeton University, and a United States citizen in 1940, while retaining his Swiss citizenship. Albert Einstein retired in 1945. In 1952, the Israeli government offered him the post of second president, which he refused. On March 30, 1953, he released a revised unified field theory. Einstein died on April 18, 1955.
